Meet Sheila Ashley

Sheila Ashley is a dedicated leader, pastor, and student advocate with over 30 years of experience serving families, educators, and communities. Her passion is rooted in one simple belief: when we come together as a village, every child has the opportunity to succeed.

As a Certified Advocate for families with disabilities and special needs, Sheila has worked tirelessly to ensure that every student—regardless of their challenges—has access to the support, resources, and quality education they deserve. Her work has impacted countless families, helping them navigate the education system with confidence and care.

In recognition of her lifelong commitment to service, Sheila was honored as a 2024 Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. But her greatest accomplishment is the trust she has built within the community as a voice for students and a partner to parents and educators.

Learn about my journey, my commitment to our students and families, and my vision for the Houston County, Georgia School Board (Post 4). I'm dedicated to creating a better future for every child.

My journey to the school board

For over 30 years, I have worked closely with students and families as a student advocate, especially supporting those with disabilities and special needs. Through that work, I’ve seen firsthand where the system works—and where it falls short. Too many families feel unheard, unsupported, or unsure of how to navigate their child’s education. That is what inspired me to step up and be part of the solution.

In addition to my advocacy work, I serve as a pastor, which has strengthened my commitment to serving people with compassion, integrity, and accountability. My life’s work has been centered around helping others, guiding families, and standing in the gap when they need support the most.

I am also honored to be a recipient of the 2024 Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award, which reflects my long-standing dedication to service and community impact. But more importantly, it represents the trust people have placed in me over the years.

My priorities for our schools

If elected to the school board, my top priorities center around advocacy, accountability, and ensuring every student has the support they need to succeed.

I will prioritize strong support systems for students—especially those with disabilities and special needs, ensuring they receive the resources and services they deserve. I am also committed to transparency and accountability, so parents, educators, and the community are always informed and involved in decision-making.

Additionally, I will be a champion for students and educators, supporting teachers and strengthening the connection between schools, families, and the community. My message, “Be the Village,” reflects my commitment to working together to create an environment where every student can thrive. My goal is simple: to help create a school system where every student feels supported, every parent feels heard, and every educator feels valued.

Engaging with our community

I believe meaningful engagement starts with being present, accessible, and willing to listen. I make it a priority to connect with parents, students, and community members through open conversations, community meetings, school events, and one-on-one discussions. I also value clear and consistent communication so people feel informed and included.

What’s most important to me in these interactions is trust and respect. Every voice matters, and people deserve to feel heard—especially when it comes to their children’s education. I approach every conversation with a mindset of understanding first, then working together toward solutions.

I also believe strong schools are built through strong partnerships. When families, educators, and the community work together, we create a supportive environment where students can truly succeed.

"Sheila Ashley truly listens to the needs of families. Her dedication to students with disabilities is unparalleled, and she genuinely cares about our community."
